Located on the Mille Étangs plateau at the top of a mountain, it is the result of repeated overflows from the Moselle glacier during the ice ages. The name Corfaing comes from "faigne", the mosses whose incomplete degradation forms the peat, still visible when the pond is drained or in summer when the springs are no longer sufficient to supply the pond. The acidic waters and seasonal changes allow us to observe "semi-aquatic" plants of regional interest (Narrow-leaved reed-grass, Small yellow water lily, Littorella uniflora...).
