The station was built in 1861, while the "coal line" between Metz and Saarbrücken was opened to traffic on 15 November 1852. The current building dates from 1962 and was redesigned in 2007 to coincide with the arrival of the European TGV EST. Thus, the new station square becomes Place Robert Schuman.
