Le manoir des Tourelles

The Tourelles Manor is located in the village of Rumilly-les-Vaudes, it is a rural building classified 16th century and preserved in its integrity. Today it houses the local Council.
The exteriors of the Manor are accessible every day, visits of the interior are according to the Town Hall’s schedule.

In view of its round turrets pierced with cannon embrasures at the corner of each building, the manor was a fortified home. The north façade with a door in the hexagonal central turret and the south façade has a gallery on the first floor, supported by six twisted columns with emblazoned capitals. The traces of the builders and occupants of the Tourelles Manor are numerous, come and discover them and relive the history of this surprising residence.

Thanks to a diary kept by a pilgrim going to the Holy Land, this picturesque manor is perfectly dated. On the 25th March, 1532, notes the said pilgrim, about a quarter of a league from the main road, there is a brand new chateau, named Remilly, very handsome, which a merchant from Troy , named Piou, owned.

The Manor consist of a rectangular main building, flanked at the corners by four large round turrets – one of which housed a chapel – equipped on the ground floor with small oval cannon embrasures, in this period of insecurity. To the north is the traditional tower housing a large spiral staircase.
