The name of the ancient village of Der, of Celtic origin and meaning "oak", recalls the ancient Gallic forest, which has since been cleared. The site was already inhabited in Roman times, with the discovery of the substructions of a villa, a fragment of a mosaic of which can be seen today in the Musée Saint Loup in Troyes. As early as the mid-9th century, Montier-en-Der owned a precaire in Pel, i.e. land that was farmed out, and as early as the mid-12th century, the abbey of Montiéramey had a priory in Der. The inhabitants of Pel and Der are called Reignats, Reignates. The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin dates from the 16th century. It features - remains of 16th-century stained glass windows - the plaque commemorating the founding of the church by Jacques Trénard (Source: Lucien MOREL PAYEN, Troyes et l'Aube). Population: 141 (Source INSEE-PSDC 1999) Surface area: 1318 hectares Altitude: 125 meters
