The 4th Australian Division Memorial honours Australian soldiers of the First World War.
This division was created in February 1916 in Egypt to defend the Suez Canal. In June, it was sent to France, on the Somme, to help the 1st and 2nd divisions.
It then took part in an assault on the Hindenburg Line in April 1917 at Bullecourt (Pas-de-Calais).
Then, in March 1918, it was sent to the Somme to face the German offensive.
On 29 September 1918, with the British and Americans, the Australian 4th Division took part in the capture of the Hindenburg Line at the Riqueval Bridge between Bellenglise and Bellicourt.
