Hôtel de Ville de Blérancourt

The old market hall built by the lords of Blérancourt in the Middle Ages was on the same site as the present Town Hall. The hall took up most of the square and was accompanied by a guards' room, a prison and a storage room. The common room overlooked the gable and, as was common at the time, was topped by a bell tower, an ostensible sign of the function of the building, intended to set the rhythm of the life of the city.
Threatening ruin in 1848, the mayor decided to have the whole building rebuilt. Knowing a great prestige during the 19th century, the mixed program mixing hall and town hall was adopted.
Affected during the First World War, the building was partly rebuilt during the 20th century, and a staircase, previously not visible, was added on the west side.
The sculptures on its gable recall the nature of the exchanges that took place on the markets of Blérancourt, which were very frequent at the time.
