Parc du Château de Vayres

The 17th-century gardens, depicted in an engraving by Claude Chastillon, were vast and oriented parallel to the Dordogne River.
Destroyed over the years, abandoned and replaced by meadows, they were recreated in 1938 by landscape architect Louis-Ferdinand Duprat, with a simpler but still regular design of formal parterres.
In addition to a formal garden and a medieval garden, Vayres also boasts a unique natural and environmental heritage, thanks to its riverside setting. The ripisylve, a waterside forest, creates a landscape where human intervention is minimized.
Rare and protected plants such as the estuary angelica and the fragile fritillary have made their home here. They stand side by side with remarkable four-hundred-year-old oak and cedar trees.
