Come and discover the "water that saws wood".
The Hallière high iron is one of the last remaining examples of the hundreds of small sawmills that were built in past centuries on the rivers of the Vosges valleys.
Here, only the force of the river turns the paddle wheel, whose circular movement is multiplied and then transformed into a very rapid reciprocating movement that drives the imposing vertical saw.
Complemented by a splitter, an edger, a power generator and other equipment, the Hallière sawmill is one of the finest examples of woodworking heritage in the Grand Est.
Guided tours and sawing demonstrations are given by a professional sawyer and the passionate volunteers of the "Friends of the Hallière". In this unique site, they will reveal all the historical, technical and human aspects of the woodworking trades.
The sawmill is currently being renovated and is temporarily closed to the public.
