The Protestant temple of Montélimar is a religious building located at 1 Porte Neuve Street in Montélimar, in the Drôme. The parish is a member of the United Protestant Church of France. In 1562, the city was taken by the troops of François de Beaumont, baron des Adrets and Protestant military leader. The Catholic garrison was executed to avenge the massacres in the principality of Orange. In 1587, the Huguenot troops of François de Bonne de Lesdiguières, duke of Lesdiguières, recaptured the city, which had been held by the Catholic troops of Laurent de Maugiron and François de La Baume. By the end of the 16th century, at the time of the Edict of Nantes, the city was almost entirely reformed; only 10% of the population remained Catholic. Despite the wishes of King Henry IV, the parliament of Grenoble opposed the establishment of a Protestant academy. Finally, the academy of Die opened in 1604.
