After La machine de Turing and La maison du loup, Benoit Solès unites magic and theater in the quest for the philosopher?s stone, which fascinated generations of alchemists.
This latest creation, which he also directs, promises an extraordinary plunge into the heart of a particularly exciting human adventure: the quest for the philosopher?s stone, the alchemist?s grail that transforms base metals into gold, heals and prolongs life for up to 120 years?
The starting point for the play was an article in Science & Vie devoted to the recipe for the "substantive stone", citing the decipherments and works of passionate scholars. The writings of doctoral student Megan Piorko, who was enthusiastic about the project, served as the guiding thread for this journey that is both dreamlike and rigorous. From the 17th century to the present day, it includes the alchemist Arthur Dee (1579-1651), who wrote a cryptic manuscript on the unfathomable recipe in the wake of his father.
A quartet of talented young actors bring the fabulous research to life, while various projected documents appear. A story of transmission and friendship, as touching as it is learned, that gives substance to our fascination with the mystery of nature and life.
