In the heart of the town of Sedan, the botanical garden offers you a green stopover. The hundred-year-old trees with exotic species, the lake and the kiosk are all elements to be discovered. In 1875, the suppression of the Bourbon bastion allowed the town to be aired by creating the Alsace-Lorraine square and the botanical garden. The plan of the garden is imagined in 1891 by René Richer, landscape gardener of Sedan. From the end of the 19th century, the whole society used to meet in the alleys of the garden to stroll, dance the musette or listen to the brass band. A very pretty terracotta statue of Paul and Virginie, sculpted by Visseau, adorned the garden. The sculptor had imagined a device allowing the umbrella to leave a perpetual stream. Unfortunately, the cyclone of 1905 broke the statue, which is still not restored to this day. Tree masonry (the work of the cement manufacturer Bourdet) adorns the small kiosk, the bridge and the transformer.
