ATTIGNY, Village Fleuri "1 Fleur"

Situated between Rethel and Vouziers, this commune is home to 1238 "Attignaciens". The main rivers crossing the town are the Aisne and the Canal des Ardennes. Called the Cité Charlemagne, the history of Attigny goes back to the time of Clovis II. Charlemagne had two Saxon chiefs, Witikind and Albion, baptized at Attigny.2 personalities have left their mark on the town:- André DHOTEL, a writer, was born at Attigny on September 1st 1900, he lived there until the age of 6 years old.- Louis DOYEN, a painter and Grand Prix de Rome winner, loved working at Attigny. One of his works ("Le mariage en Assyrie") is installed in the wedding hall of the Town Hall. The church of Notre-Dame, classified as a Historic Monument, has the particularity of having a partly Romanesque tower, while the rest of the building dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, with a kiosk on the square. Dating from the beginning of the 20th century, it has been converted into a tourist reception point since 2000.
