Centre d'art photographique P. Soulages

Right in the heart of Marcillac Vallon's historic center, a stone's throw from the church of Saint Martial, the Centre d'art photographique Pierre Soulages has decided to set up shop behind the medieval corbels at 11 place de l'église. The project is the brainchild of artist-photographer Vincent Cunillère. He has been following in the footsteps of Pierre Soulages since meeting him in 1993, and the Conques stained-glass adventure. The aim of the site is to awaken our curiosity by giving us an insight into the artist other than through his work itself. By following him in his studio or during exhibition preparations, the photographers we will see on display take us into the intimacy of Pierre Soulages' creative process, behind the scenes of his experimental universe.
The Centre d'art photographique Pierre Soulages :

On the first floor, there will be an open-access boutique (old and new books, photo and vintage prints, by-products and tickets), and an exhibition area on the upper floors. Each summer, the first level will be aligned with the Musée Soulages' summer temporary exhibition program, allowing visitors to discover internationally renowned artists.
As the second floor is essentially dedicated to Pierre Soulages, the Art Center will draw on his private collection of over 10,000 photos (digital and silver). They all come from the work of different photographers who accompanied the master of outre noir in his creative moments.
The commune of Marcillac Vallon lies halfway between the Soulages museum in Rodez and the abbey church in Conques, an attractive stop-off point on the Soulages Route. For tourists and walkers arriving from either direction, the Centre d'art photographique de Marcillac will be there to take part in the discovery of an artist and his region. Working closely with various local partners (Office de Tourisme, Vallon Cultures), the Centre d'art photographique is keen to implement a range of actions and services for the public, in order to disseminate and share the richness of our cultural heritage.
