From the Middle Ages until the revolution, the castle was the chief town of a lordship of the bailiwick of Germany and Lorraine, which included the villages of Schwerdorff, Zeurange, Betting, Gongelfang, Helten, Diersdorf, Oberesch, Mittel-Esch and Esch. The Esch family died out in the 16th century. It gave way to the
the barons of Haen, then in the 18th century to the marquis de Villers, counts of Grignoncourt. The castle was sold to merchants from Metz and then to the former farmer of the counts of Villers.
Restored in 1661, the castle burned down in 1723, to be rebuilt the following year. The Marquis de Villers gave it its present form in 1771-1778.
Today, the owners have developed an activity of horticulturists, you can find their seasonal flowers on the different markets of the surroundings, and a "to go" system, from April to September every Friday from 5pm to 8pm, you can go directly to the castle, choose your bouquet, put the money in a piggy bank and enjoy your flowers!
The castle cannot be visited.
