Stèle du souvenir et monument aux morts de Vicherey

On the heights of Vicherey, near the church, two monuments commemorate the conflicts of the 20th century.

Outside the cemetery, overlooking the village of Vicherey and its surrounding valley, one monument catches the eye: a stele commemorating those deported from the area and civilian victims shot during the Nazi occupation. The stele, inaugurated on September 30, 1990, covers 16 local communes and commemorates 38 of their inhabitants. Initiated by Maurice Gérard, Father Demange and Gilbert d?Habit, it was brought to this site in April 1990, the granite block having been donated by a granite-maker in the Hautes-Vosges region. The upper part of the statue bears the words: "Au pays du Haut-Saintois, passant rappelle-toi, ici aussi il a soufflé le vent de liberté" ("In the land of the Haut-Saintois, passers-by remember, here too the wind of freedom blew").

Nearby, in the cemetery enclosure, stands the Vicherey war memorial. This obelisk on a pedestal, with a Latin cross, surrounded by railings and engraved with the words "Gloire à nos héros" ("Glory to our heroes"), commemorates 20 men who died in the 1914-1918 war, as well as one who died in 1939-45 and one in Algeria.
