LA VALLÉE DES ÉCLUSIERS

The scale of locks of Arzviller - Henridorff is one of the remarkable sites of the network of the Voies navigables de France. Built in 1853 in order to allow the canal from the Marne to the Rhine to cross the Vosges threshold, it consisted of 17 locks spread over 3.8 km and covers a difference in level of 44.55 meters. It is today a witness of the intense fluvial and industrial activity in the 19th century.
Closed to navigation since 1969, when the Inclined Plan of Saint-Louis - Arzviller was put into service, the Vallée des Éclusiers is today a bucolic place where walkers, cyclists, fishermen, climbers and nature and heritage lovers meet.
The Vallée des Éclusiers has been converted into a greenway and can be discovered by bike, on foot or by tourist train from the Plan Incliné.
