A city at the heart of the Grand Est region, combining tradition and modernity, we invite you, in the footsteps of Stanislas, to take a pleasant detour through our territory and discover its secrets.
Commercy is characterized by its walk through the city limits of the 18th century. A stroll through the various districts highlights the Château and its Place du Fer à Cheval, the Ceramics and Ivory Museum, Place Dom Calmet and Saint-Pantaléon Church. Commercy boasts a rich historical and architectural heritage: the Prieuré de Breuil, the Bailliage royal, the 2 km-long allée classée des Tilleuls? The Musée de la Céramique et de l'Ivoire (Ceramics and Ivory Museum) exhibits one of France's largest collections of ivory and a major collection of European ceramics.
The madeleine, a favorite of Marcel Proust, is said to have originated in 1755 at the court of Stanislas, Duke of Lorraine and King of Poland. This golden, melt-in-the-mouth cookie in the shape of a conch, topped with a small blond roundness called a "boudotte", made the Cité famous in France and abroad. Today, this cake is available from three madeleineers for tasty enjoyment. A true marvel!
The vast forest surrounding the town is home to a varied natural heritage. The town of Commercy has been awarded the "Accueil à Vélo" label, guaranteeing a warm welcome and quality services along the cycle routes for touring cyclists. The port on the Canal de la Meuse welcomes boaters from all over Europe, with a service area for motor homes nearby. Throughout the year, a wide range of events take place here: exhibitions, concerts, Stan' fête la Madeleine, original tours, Saint Nicolas festivities, the summer festival "Été chez Stan"?
