Description

Located on the edge of the Haute Chevauchée road, the Monument-Ossuaire de la Haute Chevauchée stands like a silent guardian on the edge of the sector's largest mine funnel.

Climb the steps to the Monument-Ossuaire de la Haute Chevauchée. Inaugurated in 1922, this 9-metre-high monument also houses an ossuary containing the remains of some 10,000 unidentified soldiers from all nations. It was listed as a World Heritage Site in September 2023.

Behind the monument, a reconciliation cross was erected in 1973 in memory of all those who died in the fighting in the Argonne.
