The town of Combreux was already a parish in the sixteenth century. The current church is the third to be built on the territory of the municipality.
A first modest-sized church was built at an unknown date inside what is today the park of the castle. It was "not only burned, but ruined to the very foundations" during the Religious Wars.
The second one was built on the current site in 1636. In the course of the nineteenth century, it threatened to collapse, was demolished and replaced in 1869 by the building that we know, which has the distinction of not being oriented, but built along a north-south axis. Devoted to St. Peter, it also houses the relics of St. Philomena.
