FORÊT DE SAINT BLANCARD

A sensitive natural area, the St Blancard forest is one of the last beech forests in the Gers.
Its paths allow you to discover a rich and specific biodiversity.

With a surface area of 96 hectares, having belonged to the lord of St Blancard before and after the French revolution, it is one of the rare large beech forests of the plain. It is made up of different stages of vegetation and interspersed with clearings and streams. The presence of surrounding copses allows the circulation of species.

You will find there very particular herbaceous formations of under wood, sheltering in particular a rare orchid, the Neottie nid-d'oiseau (only present at this place in the department). The presence of a certain species of insects (Syrphes) also testifies to the advanced age of the forest and the presence of dry grasslands which are environments in the process of becoming rare. Finally, the wooded area is home to forest birds such as the Northern Goshawk and the Black Woodpecker.
