Second public commission of contemporary art installed in Sélestat in 1998, "La Lame" was created by Marc Couturier. Dominating the square in front of Saint-Georges church, fixed on the gable wall of a construction dating back to the Middle Ages (the old Latin School), a long form stretches for a calm appearance. It can be violent when the sun hits the gold leaves with which it is covered.
This sculpture is meant to be a 'blade' that radiates and illuminates with its presence the whole site of the square and beyond. It could well maintain a kind of spiritual dialogue with the works of the Humanist Library, vertically above a wall that protected its initial background.
