TOUR DES ANGLAIS

The English Tower is the remains of a castle belonging to the barony of Randon, one of the eight baronies of Gévaudan between the 10th and 17th centuries. Its construction dates back to the Middle Ages, at the request of Lord Philippe de Randon. The story goes that on his return from a crusade, the lord found his castle completely destroyed. He therefore decided to rebuild a new castle overlooking the whole region. The tower of the English is the only vestige of this fortress known to have been besieged by the troops of du Guesclin in the summer of 1380.
Built in medium granite, it retains three floors. The name of the village comes from this castle, built "new" by Philippe de Randon.
