The Jaur river has its source in Saint-Pons-de-Thomières, coming straight out of a vast and high cavity dug at the bottom of a high rock cliff. Often explored at the end of the 19th century, and even arranged for visits at certain times, the Jaur spring has always been a sacred place. An inscription of Gallo-Roman origin found a few dozen meters away confirms what the local tradition affirms: the church of Saint-Martin-du-Jaur (located 30m from the spring) would have succeeded an older temple. A legend even affirms that the spring is a monster petrified by the gods to whom the sanctuary was dedicated.
The spring of Jaur is a pleasant and cool place in summer, it is possible to discover a beautiful sight on Saint-Pons-de-Thomières since the park arranged on its surroundings. The old church Saint-Martin-du-Jaur is visible on the square in front of the spring, integrated into the houses.
