The horse-drawn hearse is a 4-wheeled, animal-drawn funeral carriage made of black and white painted wood and cast iron. Measuring 2.10m high and 4.72m long, it features a rectangular platform with suspension on elliptical springs, and is covered by a canopy supported at the corners by 4 uprights. The canopy?s domed roof is crowned with a cornice of palmettes highlighted with pearls and finished at the corners with an acroterion and 4 plumes. Lanterns are placed at the front, on either side of the body. Textile trimmings: scalloped black cloth slopes embellished with gold bangs, drape each side of the canopy, as does the coachman?s seat. This hearse is a simple horse-drawn carriage. Locally made, it was built in the early 20th century in Chénérailles, as indicated by the inscription engraved on the wheels. IMH
