Château du Morimont

The site is currently closed to the public for works. However, you can take a tour of the ruins and see the interior of the château and its vaulted cellar through the gates.

Nestled in a verdant setting, Château du Morimont was first mentioned in 1183, and controlled the upper valley of the river Largue. It was destroyed by French troops during the Thirty Years' War.

In 1826, a group of Jura patriots vowed to liberate their country from the Bernese yoke and form a new canton, which they did in 1978.

Visit the ramparts, watchtowers and exceptional vaulted cellar, the size of which makes it unique in Alsace. An access path leads around the castle.
