The Vallées et Plateau d'Ardenne Tourist Office is located opposite the Perle des Ardennes, on Place Jean-Baptiste Clément in Monthermé. The team welcomes you every day from 10:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 18:00 in high season, and from 10:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 17:00 in low season. In the heart of the Meuse Valley, you can discover..: HISTORICAL AND RELIGIOUS HERITAGE: Monthermé has lived from forestry, slate quarrying, clog-making and inland waterway transport on the Meuse. From 1749 to 1846, a glassworks operated on the lands of the Abbaye de Laval Dieu. Then, at the end of the 19th century, the metallurgical industry was established on the same site. Conveniently located at the confluence of the Meuse and Semoy rivers, it supplied sheet metal and puddled irons to nearby nail and bolt factories. Nearby, on the left bank of the Semoy, a foundry was set up at "le Champ du Trou", producing "Monthermé" stoves, and a little further upstream, in the hamlet of Phades, a rolled and then galvanized sheet metal factory. From 1905 to 1914, Monthermé was the headquarters of the Union des Syndicats Ouvriers des Ardennes, symbolized to this day by the Maison du Peuple. The "Mission Citronnelle" stele commemorates the struggle of the resistance fighters of the Hauts-Buttés maquis and the Vieux Moulins de Thilay. Marguerite FONTAINE and her family, residents of this hamlet, provided welcome and protection at the risk of their lives. The German Camp at Thilay: a remnant of a former camp built by the Germans in 1943, it initially housed Allied and later German prisoners. The Abbey of Laval-Dieu, founded by the Chanoines de Prémontré in the 12th century, has undergone numerous modifications following the destruction caused by enemy crossings in this border region. What remains today is the listed abbey church, with its superb woodwork. Saint-Léger Church: the original church dates back to the 12th century, but was severely damaged in 1445 when it was burnt down, along with the village, by the "écorcheurs". Rebuilt and consecrated in 1452, it was partly fortified. Most of its interior walls are covered with 16th-century frescoes. The Église des Hauts-Buttés, built between 1874 and 1876, is a sanctuary dedicated to Saint-Antoine de Padoue. Pilgrimages on June 13 and August 2.
