Maison Rachi

Description

Maison Rachi welcomes you to the heart of the Troyes Synagogue's 17th-century buildings, with a year-round program of tours and cultural activities tailored to different audiences.

These encounters will take you to the heart of the history of a thousand-year-old community, and highlight the key figure in the history of the Troyes Jewish community, Rachi, the famous 11th-century rabbi and exegete from Troyes. Rachi has become the benchmark for commentary on the Bible and Talmud, and is still taught today to Jews all over the world, from the age of 5, to help them understand the meaning of the text and make it their own. Come and discover his story, and that of his disciples who, over the following centuries, spread far beyond the borders of Champagne!

Maison Rachi invites you on an incredible journey back in time, in an extraordinary 2000m² building recently restored, culminating in a reconstructed oratory and bet hamidrash (study room), which will plunge you into Rachi's medieval Troyes! You'll also discover the restored courtyards and halls, the splendid glass roof of the prayer room and the exhibition rooms, for an innovative scenographic approach to the work and history of Rashi.

The Synagogue de Troyes has succeeded in restoring a House to Rachi in his native city, a showcase for a universal spiritual, historical and architectural heritage, which it invites you to share! An experience of openness and transmission unique in France, following in the footsteps of the master of French Judaism and discovering the heritage of Troyes.
