This dam was built in 1926 for the Société des Forces Motrices de la Vienne (itself founded in 1914) then it was taken over and managed in its operation and facilities adequate to the needs of the hydraulic system, in 1946. It is part of the group of 3 hydroelectric power plants established between the communes of Millac and Isle Jourdain. A thermal plant completed the installation and worked with pulverized coal. Its activity stopped in 1954
You should know that this massive construction is 270 m long with a waterfall of 8.10 m and a reservoir covering 35 ha. To have a small idea of the production, the plant is equipped with 4 vertical turbines installed in 1947. The total turbined flow is 94 m³ per second. The maximum power is 5,1 MVA and the average annual production is 27 000 000 kWH. Impressive!
