In a building to the right of the village church, the Musée de l'Abbé Grégoire in Emberménil presents the life's work of Abbé Grégoire, who was parish priest of Emberménil before, during and after the French Revolution. An emblematic figure, Abbé Grégoire supported the Third Estate and the Constituent Assembly. He called for the abolition of slavery, led the fight for French Jews and advocated universal suffrage. Founder of the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, as well as the Bureau des Longitudes, he participated in the creation of the Institut de France, of which he became a member. Nearby, you'll find a Human Rights stele, a cenotaph (Henri Grégoire), a memorial, plaques and a trompe-l'oeil. Along with 4 other French sites, the Maison de l'Abbé Grégoire is part of the Route des Abolitions de l'Esclavage et des Droits de l'Homme.
