Nécropole et Ossuaire de Bazeilles

Description

It was built from 1878 onwards by the State on land that it had itself bought from the municipality and from private individuals. It was completed in 1890. It contains the bones of about 3000 French and German soldiers. In accordance with an agreement dated 1 March 1951 between the Department of Veterans Affairs (Bureau Sépultures) and the Committee, the latter is responsible for the (onerous) cost of its upkeep. Its terrace had to be completely rebuilt in 1999, and can be visited by simply asking the caretaker of the house.
