Description

On the site of the ruins of a chapel, discover Saint-Vincent Abbey, built on the initiative of Queen Anne of Kiev, wife of King Henry 1st. The oldest part of Saint-Vincent church, as it stands today, is the small chapel attached to the north transept, whose exceptionally thick wall is a possible vestige of the church completed in 1069. You?ll be amazed at the church?s unconventional layout in relation to the cloister, which is not located to the south of the religious building. Sold as national property in 1790, the building was successively used as a military hospital, barracks, spinning mill and, from 1836 onwards, as an educational institution, thus returning to its original vocation: teaching. Today, a private high school occupies the premises.

You can visit parts of the abbey when it is open during the European Heritage Days.
