Airvault offers a pleasant and dynamic living environment where young and old will enjoy staying.

Nestled in the heart of the Thouet valley, Airvault was built around the Augustine abbey founded at the end of the 10^th century by Aldéarde d'Aulnay.

From the abbey, the church remains today, a major building in the history of Romanesque art, with its unique narthex in Poitou and its chapter house. Part of the convent buildings still exists and houses the Jacques Guidez museum. In the former abbatial residence, a vast collection of ethnographic objects is presented to the public.

Overlooking the town, the Old Castle watches over this medieval city that developed in the 19^th century, as evidenced by its architecture. Follow Aldéarde's paths (signs and heritage enhancement booklet) and let yourself be guided through the picturesque alleys. You will discover a diverse and preserved heritage, punctuated by curiosities: market halls, underground fountain, Art Nouveau house, cylinder organ…

Outside the city, another equally rich landscape awaits you: the medieval bridges spanning the Thouet, the lush estate of Soulièvres, as well as the mills and lime kilns, witnesses of the industrial era.
