Point de vue du Port - Menton

From the viewpoint you have a view over the harbour area and you can see the famous postcard composition : pastel-coloured houses that climb in steps up to the Basilique Saint-Michel .

Near the old town, you'll see the Vieux Port, a smaller port with mainly fishing boats and small yachts. Port de Garavan is larger, towards the Italian border, with luxury yachts and a view of the Italian village of Grimaldi .

For centuries, the port played a role in lemon exports, fishing, and even as a smuggling route during wars. In the 19th century, the city became attractive to English tourists ; the port was then a major arrival point by boat.
