The church was built from 1756–1762 and rebuilt at the initiative of the church to accommodate the growing community.
The origins lie in previous chapels on this site since the 11th century , as mentioned in the cartulary of the Abbey of Saint-Victor.
Expanded in 1851 with additional chapels (Sacré-Cœur and Sainte-Maxime), and again in 1938 with a new aisle, during which an old presbytery was demolished. In 1973 , a ceramic tympanum was added above the main entrance.
Dedicated to Saint Maxima , the mother of the martyred child, traditional patroness of the city.
Harmony between a sober exterior and a decadent, historic interior . The hallmarks are a 17th-century altar from the Chartreuse de la Verne and the polychrome marble high altar from a chapel in Saint-Tropez. The church possesses a 19-register Rieger-Kloss organ from 1993. One of the side altars comes from the famous Carthusian monastery of La Verne , a 12th-century monastery in the Massif des Maures.
