The square is named after Henri Person (1876-1926), an important artist and urban innovator.
Person settled as a painter in Saint-Tropez in the early 1900s, became a councillor in 1925 and was the driving force behind the creation of the Museon Tropelen , which later became the Musée de l'Annonciade
This small square is located in the historic La Ponche district, near the Plage de la Ponche and Plage de la Fontanette , just a stone's throw from the harbour and the Église Notre‑Dame‑de‑l'Assomption.
It is a peaceful place to relax, surrounded by fishermen's houses, oleanders and bougainvilleas – a typical Provençal atmosphere.
In the early 20th century, this area was the setting for the work of artists like Henri Doucet , who painted Rue des Pêcheurs and the area surrounding Place Henri Person – a bustling fishing district teeming with netmakers and marine life. Neither the acacia trees depicted in the painting nor the old fishermen's houses have been officially altered – the streetscape has therefore remained surprisingly authentic to this day.
