Leffrinckoucke is in French Flanders or South Flanders, part of the Flemish county that was ceded to France following the wars of King Louis XIV (1659 > 1713)

A walk on the beach and in the dunes where during the Second World War the Battle of Dunkirk (the evacuation of Dunkirk called "Operation Dynamo") was conducted. A series of German bunkers, the Zuydkote battery, can be admired as well as some wrecks on the beach (at low tide). If you want to visit the Fort des Dunes (+/- 1880) you can leave the road at exit 34 until knp 33, is a few hundred meters and impressive. The dunes, Dune Dewulf and Dune Marchand, have become protected natural areas unfortunately inaccessible to dogs. "Weekend in Zuydcote", a book (1949) then filmed (1964), is a novel of the Second World War with the filming around and on the beach of Zuydcote.

Free parking on boulevard Jean-Baptiste Trystram. It is best to bring a GPS (or print an overall map) because the poles with junctions are sometimes difficult to find in the dunes. There is a renewal of nodes but online (GPS) not yet visible. At the end of the route, follow 34 > 36 > 37 (50 meters from the car park). At the beginning of the route it should be knp 37 > 31 but is somewhat blurry there, just towards the beach and then on the right on the beach. Those who want to shorten the route to 10 km can cross knp 21 to knp 22 and then follow further. Walking on the beach and in the dunes also means many paths with sand, so conditionally a little more difficult.
