Along the old smuggling route of the Corniche des Maures: Sentier du Fenouillet

In the 18th and 19th centuries, this rugged coastline of the Corniche des Maures, which is easily accessible and barely visible from the sea, was used by smugglers who brought goods (such as salt and alcohol) ashore outside the official ports.

The route starts at the car park of the Maison de la Nature, where the entrance to the Dattier tunnel of the old railway can be seen.

The walk consists of 2 loops that are connected to each other in a maquis-like atmosphere. A first loop takes us via the Pointe du Dattier and the Foncin estate to the hamlet of Le Dattier on the other side of the tunnel.

We return and then do a second loop to the charming Plage de Bonporteau in a natural bay. We return along the valley of the Ruisseau du Fenouillet.

It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful walks you can do in Cavalaire. This very varied walk crosses unusual landscapes for a seaside resort. Although there is no particular difficulty level, it does require some skill (and good shoes) as you have to walk along a narrow, narrow path along the sea, alternating climbs and descents.
