Hiking trail - Vanémont, the Crow's Rock

Markup: yellow circle - yellow cross - red ring - yellow cross - blue cross - green and white flag. Duration: 3h30, distance: 10km, elevation: +420m. It is advisable to wear good hiking shoes, also bring a drink in a backpack, keep your dog on a leash, and respect the trails. By car, head towards Vanémont (D 31). Upon arriving in the village, follow the railway line, cross over the train bridge. At the roundabout, take the 1st road on the right (D 31), heading towards Haut Fer de Brouaumont. 200 m further, at the end of the village sign, turn left towards Haut Fer. Turn right twice until you reach the water tower where you park (hiking signs). Take the trail towards Roche des Corbeaux. Climb 200 m amidst blocks of pink sandstone from the Vosges. At the fork, go left leaving the right path. Continue your ascent in the pine forest. You are on the Path of Peace and Freedom that passes by Borne 6. On your right, observe some Vosges sandstone blocks with pudding stone (conglomerate). Once on the flat path, turn left twice. At Roche des Corbeaux (alt 701 m), enjoy a beautiful viewpoint over the Corcieux basin and the Blue Line of the Vosges. Continue on the trail until the next path which you take left. Between pines, firs, and larches, stop at the Pierre de la Guillotine. The slightly descending path leads you to the crossroads of Trapin des Saules (alt 649 m) where you take a left on an unmarked path for 500 m. Turn sharply left to reach Roche des Fées (alt 678 m) located 400 m away. Beautiful view over the Corcieux basin with, in the background, Hohneck (recognizable by its inn on top) and the village of La Houssière dominated by the 3 Mountains (Thiriville, Moyennel and Cours Moinel). Return to point 5 where you continue straight on the descending path until Borne 6 (alt 644 m). Take the path in front of the monument towards La Houssière until the crossroads of the Noiregoutte Forest Road where you will turn left. Continue straight ahead ignoring the one that goes up to the left. As you approach the village of Vanémont, after a cleared area for forestry work, leave the signage and take the small unmarked path to the left leaving the one that climbs steeply. At the first houses, turn left onto Chemin du Globe to return to the starting point 50 m away.

THE BORNE 6 - OCTOBER 1944 BATTLES: The 1st Battalion of the 141st Infantry Regiment being surrounded by the German army, the 442nd Regiment, composed of Hawaiian soldiers, came to the aid of this "Lost Battalion" and suffered very heavy losses. THE PIERRE DE LA GUILLOTINE: Made of Vosges sandstone, this cupule is due to the mechanical and chemical erosion of rainwater. A legend tells that every captured bandit in the area had their head chopped off here. It is said that it was even used by druids for human sacrifices. The name "Pierre de la Guillotine" dates back to the Revolution.
