Circuit the butcher's cross cb

Thank you to the French Federation of Hiking and to Xertigny in transition for organizing this hike and for the work done by its teams throughout the year to mark and maintain these paths. Marking: yellow rectangle CB Parking is available at the Amerey school and follow the marking on the west side to turn left onto the Robemoi path until the Constant Breton cross. It is then possible to join circuits 11 and 13 by exiting the forest to the south or to return to the school in the opposite direction. Xertigny in Transition has developed a network of hiking trails covering the entire municipal territory, so we decided to mark a small variant to honor this poor butcher and remember his sad fate in these difficult times, a way to connect with the passing times and to reflect on our own struggles to gain perspective.

On this circuit, we recount this drama experienced in Amerey and its twists and turns that unfold over more than 150 years. On December 14, 1855, Constant BRETON, a butcher from Bains les Bains, comes to pick up two animals from a farm in Amerey. The weather is bad, he is hurrying to return with the animals on his sled along the hat road that leads up to La Chapelle aux Bois towards Bains les Bains. The snow is so thick, the sky so dark, he must think he won't make it to his destination, so he ties the sled and animals to a tree to seek help, and plunges into the forest towards Amerey... he will be found dead in the forest a few days later, and a stele will be erected at this location in his memory.
