Walking circuit - La Folie - La Croix de l'Ormeau

Departure: Church Square. Take Henry Street until the intersection (200 m) where you will turn right towards the campsites: Les Bans-La Tour. Follow the markers (Yellow circle) to the next intersection. Turn right onto James Wiese Street at the level of the restaurant La Mangeoire. You will pass in front of the Domaine des Bans campsite and then the Forfelet nursing home. At the intersection, turn right, towards Maison Pierre Nicole (Yellow circle). At the hamlet of Vichibure*, turn left (Yellow circle). Notice, on the façade of the first house, the date of its construction (1827), its sandstone pediment, and two inscriptions H10. CH6: during the German occupation in 1940, houses were requisitioned to accommodate the enemy army. The inscriptions specified the number of men (H 10) and horses (CH 6) that could be housed. On the southeast façade of the following house dated 1723, notice the small window in the flamboyant Gothic style. This house was a prison during the time of the counts of Martimprey. Continue and turn right at the next intersection, direction La Folie (Yellow circle). After a short ascent on paved road, continue on the dirt path. On your right, you will have a view of Corcieux, its bell tower, and in the background, the Hennefête forest. 300 m further, on your left, notice big granite blocks. Continue straight ahead (Yellow circle) on the pleasant forest path that crosses the locality of La Folie. Below, you will see the ruins of an old mill* fed by the Bans stream. Leave the path that goes up to the left and follow the marked trail to the right (Yellow circle). You pass over an old stone bridge. On your right, there are old granite quarries. At the end of the path, turn right onto the paved road until the hamlet of La Charmelle, 300 m away (alt 630 m). At the intersection, continue straight ahead (Yellow triangle) and turn left to cross the D 31 and take the dirt path in front (Yellow triangle). Behind you, the Tête de Nayemont (alt 967 m) overlooks the small hamlet of La Charmelle. Continue across the fields (Yellow triangle) and admire the beautiful panorama. From left to right: the 3 Mountains (the Tête de Cours Moinel, the Mont Moyennel, the Mont Thiriville), the Roche des Corbeaux overlooking the village of Vanémont, and Corcieux with the Hennefête massif in the background. At the Croix de l'Ormeau (alt 594 m), a beautiful Calvary (1816). Continue along the path in a slight descent until the Croix Égline estate that you cross (alt 561 m) to arrive in Corcieux via Pierre Nicole Street. Pass in front of the town hall and head towards the church, the starting point of the hike.

It is advisable to wear good hiking shoes, also bring drinks in a backpack, keep your dog on a leash, and respect the paths.

GEOLOGY AROUND CORCIEUX Around Corcieux, there are sandstone massifs with some puddingstone (or conglomerate) like at the Roche des Corbeaux, granite areas (Vichibure, Champ de Roches...) and others where sandstone and granite have formed a metamorphic rock: the Gerbépal migmatite present at the Tête de Nayemont, among others.
