The Belvedere of Marie

Two starting points are suggested for this circuit: one at the edge of the forest, already offering a nice elevated view of the surroundings, the other below, next to a large recreational area connected to the bike path along the river.

The route connects the banks of the Sarre to Grosbliederstroff, a picturesque border town, to the Brandenbusch forest. From the towpath, you will then take the forest trails, enjoying leisure spots and visits in the center of the village during your hike. Don't miss the beautiful Saint-Innocent Church (1745), in baroque style, whose interior is renowned for its beauty and is listed for its numerous religious objects and elements. The ossuary near the church is fully listed in the additional inventory of historic monuments.

The path along the Sarre is very pleasant, especially in summer, when walkers, cyclists, and kayakers enliven the towpath and the river. The Grosbliederstroff recreational area nearby offers many games for all ages, a shelter, and picnic tables.

Heading towards the Brandenbusch forest, you will need to climb the vineyard slope for nearly 1 km. This effort will be rewarded with a first view of the surrounding countryside. Behind you, the forest is your next stop for a hike in nature. You will enjoy the calm and tranquility there. A loop of almost 6 km will take you along shaded trails, part of which is the botanical and health route. About 68 different species from the region are gathered.

The cave of Notre Dame du Brandenbusch, the Marie belvedere, is an essential stop, overlooking the town on the hillside in front of the forest. Numerous benches are installed so walkers can quietly enjoy this beautiful panorama of the Sarre valley and towards Germany.

At the beginning or end of your route, if you wish to extend your itinerary into Germany, the Friendship Bridge, located on the Sarre near the recreation area, connects the municipalities of Grosbliederstroff and Kleinblitterdorf. It is via this bridge that you can reach the Saarbahn tram-train towards Saarbrücken or Sarreguemines.

- Variant: for a quiet family stroll in a green setting, it is possible to do only the main tour in the Brandenbusch forest starting from the botanical and health route parking lot (5.8 km). You will enjoy with the children the beautiful panoramic view from the Notre Dame du Brandenbusch cave.
