Situated between the forest of Compiègne and the Automne valley, the Orrouy circuit takes in an exceptional historical site: Gallo-Roman ruins, Romanesque church, Château de la Motte, commemorative stele from the Great War and the site of General Mangin's tank camp.
"O passer-by, if by any chance you wander here, stop, friend, put your hat down, here, for the great adventure, were born the battle tanks".
On the edge of the Compiègne forest, a memorial reminds us that General Estienne, a pioneer of tank technology, trained Renault light tanks here during the First World War. Unfortunately, only a few traces of the camp remain, and the barracks and infrastructure have completely disappeared. In the end, however, the Camp de Champlieu included over 200 barracks, hangars, powder magazines, a huge railway station with seven loading bays...
