A departure is also possible from the Tourist Office in Chauffailles.
Starting from Anglure-sous-Dun, point No. 1, visit the church, built in 1865, which has a Stations of the Cross offered by Napoleon III, 14 paintings from the Chovet house in Paris. Before the creation of the commune of Anglure-sous-Dun in 1869, the inhabitants of this village, then part of Mussy-sous-Dun but far from the town, had built a schoolhouse, a church, and a presbytery, arranged a cemetery, and obtained the appointment of a teacher and a priest. The construction of the church, "of character and privately funded," was carried out with subscriptions launched among local families and through volunteer transportation of materials, finished around 1865. The church was donated to the commune by the owners of the site in 1870.
It was by prefectural order dated September 1, 1869, that the creation of the commune of Anglure-sous-Dun was authorized, detached from neighboring Mussy-sous-Dun. The name of the commune comes from the De Noblet d'Anglure family, who owned the castle, of which only ruins remain, probably the outbuildings with a house attached to the stable and barn.
Climb the street with the church on your left and continue for about 200 meters, then take the path on the left that will lead you to point No. 2. Veer right and go down to the charming Chapelle du Pontet, perfectly restored, built in 1875, following a vow made by Abbot Veylon, who, suffering from a tumor, had promised this offering in case of healing. Turn right towards point No. 3 "Les Granges." Go back up into the Mussy valley to the place called "Les Combes," with a magnificent view of the village of Mussy-sous-Dun and its famous Viaduct, then descend to the "Moulin de la Planche Simon," point No. 4 where you will cross the Mussy river but will no longer find the mill.
This walk takes you through woods and forests. Beautiful views of the Beaujolais mountains. At the place called "La Ragée," continue in the coolness of the woods, point No. 5 then point No. 6 agricultural fields, small hamlets until you reach the Statue of Monternat, point No. 7, a replica of the one in La Salette. There, this restful and calm place surrounded by flowers invites you to contemplation. Let’s quote R and A.M Oursel: "The oratory of Monternat perpetuates in a mountainous, secret, and wooded site the memory of the Apparitions of La Salette, on September 19, 1846."
Descend towards Chauffailles, cross the bridge overlooking the Lyon/Paray-le-Monial railway until point No. 8. Turn right before Le Belvédère, a residence for the elderly. You overlook the town, with some beautiful homes in sight.
Descend along a small path to point No. 9 "Route de Mussy," at the crossroads a roadside cross "La croix de Mussey" marks this crossing of paths; it is one of the most original in the commune of Chauffailles, mounted on a three-step platform. Its components: pedestal, shaft of the cross itself, are all three decorated with refined sculptures. Veer right towards "Les Taillis," point No. 10, turn left and descend through woods and meadows, until "Le Moulin," enjoy the charm that this place exudes. Turn left and go back up towards the village of Anglure-sous-Dun.
