For this ride, we drove to the foot of Les Deux Alpes where there is plenty of parking at the lake. From there, it was about 24km of easy climbing to the top of the Col du Lautaret. After that, it is another 9 km of pushing, sweating, and suffering to the top of the Galibier. Don’t forget to equip your bike with front and rear lights as you occasionally ride through a tunnel. Also, take the time to stop for a photo along the way because the surroundings are breathtakingly beautiful. The road is quite good and although there is some traffic, it wasn’t too bad for us. Cars keep their distance, even when overtaking. It's a pity I have to write this, but motorcycles sometimes zoom by very closely.
