P05 Villefagnan - Barsac

Fifth ride to the Algarve, from Villefagnan to Barsac: 179 km and 1227 meters of elevation over quiet and hilly roads.

First quite hilly, then flat to finish with some hills. After 51 km of ups and downs, we arrive in Châteauneuf sur Charente where you cross the ‘Charente’ and then climb, descend, and climb again to the highest point of the day: 179 m after 82 km. After a descent, past Guizengeard, you reach the Charente-Maritime department, where it gently descends and eventually becomes flat. You leave the Charente-Maritime department and enter the Gironde department. After 136 km you reach Libourne and cross the ‘Dordogne’ (5 m). Then you climb out of this valley, to a plateau to descend again to the Valley of the ‘Garonne’, about 40 km upstream from Bordeaux.

You arrive in Barsac, a small municipality in the department of Gironde with about 1950 inhabitants in the Bordeaux wine region.
