The Welsh name for Wales. The originally Celtic language is not understandable for outsiders. Although only 20 percent of the population (a total of about three million people) still speaks the old language, official designations are bilingual. Fortunately. Wales has been governed by London since 1536 (Act of Union). The coal and steel industry seriously declined after 1960.
