The church was built in 1935 by the architect C.E. Howitt. Construction work started in 1934 and the building was consecrated by Henry Mosley, the Bishop of Southwell on 15 May 1935. The estimated cost was £8,500 ,, most of which came from the Diocese of Southwell from the sale of the site of the former St. Paul's Church, George Street, Nottingham.
