The poet-sandal maker Melissinos can be found at the edge of the new Plaka: Spirri, specifically at Aghias Teklas. The reason he has become so famous is that The Beatles came to buy sandals from him and had them made as well. With such gentlemen as a reference on the customer list, the organization of the 2004 Olympic Games also decided that he was the person to make the sandals to be used at the ceremonies of the Olympic Games. Previously, his shop was near Monasteraki.
