In one of the most beautiful squares of Athens, you will find the monument of Lisikrates. The square is therefore called Platia Lisikratous. The monument you see here dates back to 333 BC and was visited by both Lord Byron and Chateaubriand, who stayed at this square during their visit to Athens. At that time, a monastery had been built around this monument. This monastery was destroyed in 1824 by the Turk Omar Pasha during the Greek War of Independence.
Chateaubriand incorporated his stories of the city in his books "Les Martyrs" and "Itinéraire de Paris à Jerusalem."
