The Imbros Gorge was also the way out of 10,000 soldiers of the fleeing Allied army. The Germans were advancing 10 days after their landing in May 1941. At the end of the gorge on the sea were ships to pick up the soldiers. About 1000 soldiers will be late and had to hide in the mountains of Crete for 4 years.
